I ahd a bad NIC card, and have had a new system board
installed. (Sony Vaio with an intergrated NIC) I know
there are difficulties with new hardware and XP. I have
deleted and readded the card, doesn't fix it.

Any ideas? Of course, the vendor says the card is fine.

Make sure its enabled in the bios.

If the vendor says the card is fine, tell them to get it working for you! Be
forceful here, as it is their problem, if the computer is still under
warranty!

You had a NIC which implies your old motherboard did not have an onboard
network controller. You now have a new motherboard which does have a new
onboard network controller. So obviously you have a different motherboard
model than you had before. Did you run the Repair option when booting from
the Windows XP CD so you get the OS to recognize the new motherboard with
its different set of controllers?
