This is the third time I have posted my problem with my printer. Is there
anyone out there who has a clue? I can't even get an e-mail much less a
response. Here it is-

I am running WIN XP PRO with all the current updates
installed and I have a Canon BJC-4300 which I tried to
install the driver for that I downloaded from Canons WEB
Site (which they claim works fine with XP even though I
get the message stating this software has not been
tested and approved for XP; something there readme file
claims will happen but to ignore) and now I have the
following problems & error messages:

On a regular basis a window will pop up saying, "Spooler
SubSystem App has Encountered a problem and needs to
close!" It then wants to send a report to Microsoft which
I have a million times

I tried to delete the printer and I get an error message
that says, "Print spooler service is not running!"

I was able to delete it but it took a reboot for it to go
away but when XP Pro restarted and it said it found new
hardware the printer wizard said it had a problem and had
to discontinue the installation.

If I try to reinstall the driver I downloaded it too
gives a message that the driver was not installed and the
printer may not work!

I try to add a printer and I get the following
message, "Operation could not be completed!"

When I tried to view the properties of the printer when
there was an Icon for it I would get a message that it
was unable to open the properties due to Print Spooler
Service Not Running!" as well.

I initially attempted to install the printer as a network
printer to print through my SMC Barricade SMC7004ABR
router (which always worked fine with WIN9x) and set it
up to print to the router port and when that didn't work
I deleted all Apps associated with the printer (Canon
Creative & etc) and then shut down and plugged it into my
Parallel Port Directly but still was unable to install
it. When I try to view Network Printer Properties I get
the same messages.

I don't know if when I installed the various Apps such as
Canon Creative it somehow installed the original driver
and since I didn't delete it first it has screwed it up
but I know that when I attempted to install the drivers
that came with it XP would let me and told me to go to
the Manufacture for an updated driver which is what I did.

I really need to print something bad so any help you can
give would be great.

Charles,
I hate to tell you this, but you're going to have to call Canon, and probably
either pay long distance or pay for the call. But it is Canon who will have to
help you.

I have a suggestion if you have not tried this then give
a try.

1. turn off your computer
2. disconnect printer
3. boot computer
4. unstall or delete printer drives, make sure all
drivers are deleted, even in recycle bin.
5. down load drivers setup file from cannon web site
6. turn off computer
7. connect printer
8. boot computer
9. install drivers

Hope this helps

If not there maybe a problem with your printer and XP.
Also send your problem to cannon or call them.

I know how it is to be grasping at straws , so I'll just add my two cents .
My printer, an HP, not a Cannon, but it too acts strangely sometimes,
especially after it has been unplugged because of an electrical storm. At
those times it , as well as my cable router will refuse to do anything . I
mean zero. And the only solution anyone has found is to unplug everything
from the wall socket and wait a few minuites , then when it is plugged back
in everything is in first class working order.
We can only hope the answer to your problems is so simple.

You said when XP Pro restarted and it said it found new hardware.
I've cured most printer install problems by making sure the printer is
powered OFF, otherwise it will install the XP drivers.
Reboot, then when it's detected, continue through to where it starts looking
for drivers, and only then power the printer up and point it to the Canon
drivers, NOT the XP ones.

Hi, I read a similiar problem where person had a canon printer and it
had to have a bi-directional print port. Have you checked in bios if
the printer port is just set as a plain lpt1. If so you may need to
alter it to EPP or ECC+EPP. Most modern p/cs have this feature.
You must set this in the bios. Perhaps if you right click on "My
Computer" and go to properties, left click on that and then select
hardware details, then print and comms ports, this may show you if
your print port is set as a plain or enhanced port. Also is your
printer cable bi-directional as the very cheap cables are not!.

Hope you feel more loved now, I know how frustrating a call to the
wilderness can be and how annoying the smartarses who say use linux
why are you using microsoft etc.
