Howard

The 2 computers are on a peer-to-peer network with xp pro.
When I try to start the applcation from the 'client' it
fails as it cannot acces the database tables.

I wrote the application and it is fully networkable and
has worked fine upto XP.

I have already:
1) disabled both firewalls
2) diabled simple file sharing
3) shared with full rights all relevant dir's and set
permissions to full
4) logged on with full admin rights
5) set security level -everyone- to have full rights
6) enabled remote access on both computers
7) net view \\server from the client lists all the
directories that my applcation requires
8)NTFS permissions for'everyone' have been set to all
rights

The applcation still fails.Please advise.

Hi Howard
Ive seen your posting on here a few times recently and no-one's been able to
answer you.
Have you tried any of the software developer specific groups? I think that a
database development one may have enough experts to give you some answers.
What development tool and database engine are you using for interest?
I know paradox local won't work across networks but that's about it.

I am using paradox with a component designed fro network
use. the component developer assures me that it is xp
compatible. I have used win2000 as a server and xp as a
client and it works fine.

Either my customer has not followed my instructions or
there is a bug in xp pro that prevents it being used as
a 'server'. One would have thought that MS would have
published precise instructions for networking where there
were significant changes from other OS. It all seems very
amateurish to me, how are professional developers
surposed to program for MS O/S. It makes me want to change
to Linux even faster.

that's about it.

Kinda weird for me to be defending TheBorg, but M$ has always stated
that XP PRO and XP HE are client OSs, not server OSs.

Ok, first to troubleshoot we need to find out if you can access the files
without your application - can you mapped a drive and access the share with
the database files? If not what error(s) do you get?
