Does XP also run DOS applications?

I'm thinking of upgrading to Windows XP but want to make
sure it will run a couple of my old DOS applications, as
my Windows 98 does. If so, can I launch them from a
desktop icon? thanks.

Bill

You can if the are 32-bit programs. We have an inventory
management/POS software package that runs in DOS-mode on
our Windows XP Pro workstations.

Some will, some will *not* run on any NT version. These are usually
applicaitons that directly address hardware. For example, I have an older
diskette mastering program that makes CRC-consistent diskette copies and
takes over the floppy controller. This will *not* work on NT, 2000, or XP.
Some games want to write directly to video hardware, and won't work either.

In other words, Bill, the only way to find out is to install your program
and hope for the best. I have the old DOS GWBasic running fine -
actually, it is more convenient now as I don't have to drop down into DOS to
run it.

Good luck,

I am a writer and use an old copy of Wordstar as my word
processor. I'd hate to lose it. Hearing that it may be
iffy, I'm going to check out the Wordstar website and see
what others are saying. Pray for me!

Thanks Patrick. I'm going to check further at the Wordstar
website and see what luck others have had.

Thanks, Joe. Hearing this, I'm going to check in at the
old Wordstar website and see what others are saying.

I still run hundreds of old DOS programs from back to 1983 on XP and they all run fine. GWBasic runs beautiful. For additional info, go to below website if you need info on increasing file handlers and on how to eject your CD-Rom tray from the DOS prompt

EJECT free download. From a DOS Prompt, you can now EJECT the CDROM tray

It runs some DOS applications just fine, but others won't run at
all. Specify what applications you're concerned with, and someone
here may have relevant experience.

Yes.

I have Foxpro 2.6 DOS. I just tried compatibility setting. But unable to set
path.
Same programs a-ok in ME
Thanks in advance
