Hello,

I need to know if Vista (Home Premium) can index PDF files
so that I can search on the contents of the files.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi,

I woud doubt it unless a .pdf editor was installed. The Adobe Reader just
treats it as an image file (you can't edit the content), and there is no
native support for .pdf in Vista.

Hi everyone!

I am using Foxit Reader for pdf files, and i want the windows search engine
to search for the contents of the pdf files. i tried to go to the (control
panel->system and maintenance->indexing options->advanced->) file types,
located the pdf extension and allowed "index properties and file contents",
but it still does not do what i want. Does Vista search for pdf files
contents at all?

Only if an app installs a filter for that type. Right now, Adobe
appears to be the only one with a PDF indexing plug-in. :(

Please install Adobe PDF Reader 8.0 which, will also install the Reader
iFilter 6.0.

You may search for iFilter 6.0 on Adobe's website which should allow Vista
to index PDF files.

I tried this method, it worked in XP with WDS 3.0, but failed to work with
Vista, but I hope this works for you.
