A UPS is one of the least expensive best things you can buy for a computer.
Don't use a computer without one.

Is it good when i buy a ups???

The power supply (metal box in computer where you plug-in
the power cord) is capable of maintaining steady low
voltages to the motherboard and disks, at wide power
voltage variations (+-30% or more) without damaging
anything. Worst case it blows its fuse, blows itself up
internally, or doesn't work but no harm done! That because
the high voltage side is completely isolated by the little
transformers from the low voltages side that the computer
needs to work.
The UPS will mainly give you some emergency power for a
little time longer to work and shut down if the power is
cutoff (or your girlfriend needs attention and pulls the
plug - getting then the wrong kind of attention!).
The UPSs also provide some "filtering" to the input power
if it is noisy or unstable and, fusing. The computer power
supply doesn't need it that badly because it has its own
filters, fuses and stabilizers.
So, 99% you need the UPS is in case power is cut-off and
you 've been drawing something and power is out - there it
goes!
What you have to be careful with is that no liquids go
into the power supply (coffee, water, cleaning spray etc).
That will cause Armaggedon as the input power high voltage
crosses over to the low voltage sides and everything is
nuked! The UPS will not protect anything fast enough in
that case. Make sure that the P/S fan is always running.
Never open the P/S plugged or unplugged. The smallest
screw left inside or little piece of wire will do wonders.
A new one is only about $25.00.
So don't worry about your disk, hard knocks and kicks
damage them more frequently than power.
You owe me $2.50 for this advice. have fun

Thank you Tom and mem!
