Does the MSI K8T NEO2-FIR.. support ECC memory?

Just a couple of questions..

I'm trying to build commercial grade workstations which deal with
large databases. Thus ECC memory is a MUST for my client.

I know the MSI doesn't list the MSI K8T Neo2-Fir as supporting
ECC.. But with the Athlon-64, the memory interface is between the CPU
and memory chips. Thus it should be a function of the CPU, not the
chipset or MB. Well it could be the MB issue, if they don't wire the
extra 8 bits for each of the DIMM memory connectors.

Does anyone know it the new athlon-64's (90nm, 939 pin) will
support ECC checking with the appropriate 72 bit wide memory?

Does the latest bios(1.4?) for the MSI K8T Neo2-Fir have an ECC
checking option?

If you go to the AMD web site and look at the tech info, I believe it
states that both the Athlon 64 and the Athlon 64 FX support ECC memory.

I think we all know that..so what are you saying?.... the board makers
would have to go out of their way to disable ECC support?

I don't know for sure whom you're asking or making a statement to, or
whatever the case may be!!! Are you addressing me, or are you
addressing someone else???

I advised the originator where he could get information about the CPUs,
but your post is quite vague as to whom your addressing your
questions/statement to!!!

Most of these 754 or 939 boards don't support ECC. MSI would be the
place to ask this question. I have looked at this in the past and the
only board maker that actually has a bios setting for ECC memory on
754 or 939 boards is ASUS. Of course the amd64 supports ECC memory but
I think the motherboard maker has to enable it in the bios. Since most
folks don't want ECC it is usually not an option on many boards.

Both the cpu AND the motherboard will have to support ECC. Sorry, can't
list specific cpu models that support ECC.

The "AMD Athlon™ 64 Product Data Sheet" lists ECC as a feature of
socket754, and socket 939 parts. This does not mean to say
that ALL socket754 and socket 939 parts support ECC. Some do and some
don't.

The "AMD Athlon™ 64 FX Product Data Sheet" lists ECC as a feature of
socket939, and socket 940 parts. This does not mean to say
that ALL socket939 and socket940 parts support ECC. Some do and some
don't.

After talking to MSI.. and talking to AMD..
It looks like the answer is NO.. MSI 939 pin MBs may run with ecc
dimms .. but no ECC support.

MSI doesn't have a ECC bios setting and has no plans to add it.

Scratch MSI 939 pin solutions for usage with large databases.

Excellent technical post on MSI mother boards. Thank you... MSI scratched
off my list of choices for 939 pin motherboards.
