Does P2P have to be on computer?

Hi. I'm trying to clean up some of the crap my kids have
download onto my pc. Kazaa is the biggest problem -- it
won't let me uninstall it through Add/Remove Programs so
I'm not sure how to get rid of it. I don't want to just
remove the directory because I'm sure I'll get all sorts
of registry errors if I do. Any ideas how to remove it
without screwing up the registry?

Also, does P2P networking HAVE to be on the pc? I went to
remove it and it indicated a number of programs relied on
it (all crapware), but before I removed it I wanted to
make sure it didn't HAVE to be on the pc.

Thanks for your help :-) Judy

In some cases, Kazaa won't remove if you remove the parasite components
first - since they're part of the uninstall scripts, removing them breaks
the scripts.

IN that case, it's necessary to reinstall with the crapware, then run the
Kazaa uninstall. Or, you can manually remove the Kazaa files and traces
from the registry, then use SpyBOt (http://security.kolla.de/) and/or
AdAware (www.lavasoftusa.com) to clean things up. This will help greatly
with removing the parasite components.

Running SpyBot and AdAware are good ideas, anyway, and will probably find a
few things you'd rather not have.

To answer your other quesiton, P2P does *not* have to be on the system
unless you want to do P2P file sharing. I suspect that the other apps
mentioned are parasites installed when a person did the default install.
In most cases, you do NOT want those. I am regularly paid well to clean
things like that off systems so that they will function properly again.
