My Subject line fairly well states the question. I realize Outlook Express
does not give the option of a solid line to the left in a reply (that can be
broken) but I was wondering if Microsoft has pursued the same course with
Outlook.
Can one point me in the right direction as to do this if possible. Thanks.

In OE the solid line is only on HTML replies. Outlook uses the same method.

tools, options, email options to select the reply format.

Rich Text and HTML messages can have the solid line. Plain Text, naturally,
cannot, but you can have Outlook use a vertical line | on each text line if
you want.

Thanks for the reply(s) ... what I would like to see in Outlook is to be
able to *break* the solid line in replies. This is impossible in Outlook
Express and seemingly Microsoft has hotly pursued the same course with
Outlook, but I'm hoping there is a way to break that solid line. It would be
nice to see the > (Indent) in the plain text, but from what I see, there is
not that option, unless I'm missing something (other than my marbles). Let me
know what you think ... thanks.

I don't think that's possible.

Thank you for this reply. Does this mean I can / have to get rid of the html
settings in order for this to work in Outlook?

Brian, why don't I get you on two things ... the former regarding the solid
line in replies which I already have asked, and secondly, can one open an
e-mail within Outlook (or a reply) without opening another window altogether.

I'm not exactly sure what you want to accomplish, but you can't break the
solid line. You either have it or you don't.

To reply requires a reply window.

Exactly what I would like to see is the option of breaking that solid line
to the left. Eudora has allowed that since it was created and it always
amazed me why Microsoft is that bent on not fixing it (or allowing it).

So summing this side of the story up, Outlook has the solid line that cannot
be broken then and so I have it (if I were to use Outlook in fact for the
e-mailer).

To reply requires a reply window.

Again some e-mailers (i.e. Eudora) opens not a separate window, but opens
the window right within the program.
I like what I see in Outlook 2007 apart from these two things. Thanks for
your input / help sir. Appreciated.

For HTML and Rich Text messages. Of course, you don't have to include the
otriginal message in the reply and then you won't get the line.

It's a lot nicer to have the solid line there and to break it in a response.
Automatic is always nicer, and makes it a lot easier for the one you are
replying to, able to see who is saying what.
Of course, one can always do the >>>>>>>>>> manually in the Outlook, but
what amazes me is that Microsoft refuses to give us that option.

They haven't and obviously are not, so one uses Eudora which I have used for
years. I would switch to Outlook in a moment if these two things were given
us as an option.

Thanks again for your input Brian. :-}
