Does gmail work with Outlook?

When I click on an email address online, it opens Outlook, but my Outlook
isn't connected to gmail. Will Outlook work with gmail, and if so, how do I
connect it?
 
Followed all the instructions, but the testing never worked, and there
weren't side instructions for that. I tried it but the email lingers in the
inbox and never goes anywhere. Any suggestions?

What do you mean by "lingers in the Inbox and never goed anywhere"? Of
course it doesn't. Mail gets sent from the Outbox, not the Inbox.

Post exactly what you have on the Advanced tab of your gmail account
properties. Post the values you have for the incoming and outgoing servers
as well.
 
Just went through everything again, using both the Gmail and MS instructions.
The hang-up was the POP wasn't enabled. Finally it works! Thanks for taking
the time to respond to me.
