does BCM handle divisions

i'm trying to move ACT data into BCM. i cannot figure out if there is a way
for BCM to handle divisions. for example, i deal with hospitals that are
sometimes part of a regional division of a larger health system. so it's
parent->region->hospital. i'd like to be able to keep all of this
intelligence. ACT does this nicely, but i don't see it happening on BCM.
can anyone help?!?

I'm not sure how you mean "ACT handles this nicely" unless you're using
groups and subgroups.

BCM has a way to do this using Accounts and Contacts. Make the Account the
Parent. Add custom fields to each Contact for Region and Hospital. Now,
using customized views of your contacts and/or Search Folders, you can
customize the display so that it "groups by" parent, then region, then
hospital.

i guess i should clairfy. ACT actually handles divisions of comanies. you
can setup the parent and then create any number of divisions, subdivisions,
subsubdivisions, etc. they are all "accounts" but they are related to one
another through a hierarchy. this is native functionality in ACT. it
doesn't appear that this functionality exists in BCM. too bad, there are a
LOT of companies with divisions and the intelligence provided by knowing
these interrelationships is one of the biggest advantages to CRM (in my
opinion).

however, i believe your workaround may work, but i'll have to get a little
better with BCM before pulling it off, e.g. adding custom fields. it is
quite the pain in the ass that i cannot edit the "accounts" form to remove
the unwanted details and add custom fields in the place where they'd be most
convenient. it'd be most helpful if i could arrange the forms as i see fit
rather than simply being able to add to the bottom of the form. but i
digress.

thank you very much for the idea for custom fields. i'll have to see if i
can make it work. it is complicated a bit by the different structures of
various companies, but i'll make a go of it.

thanks,
jp
