Does anyone moderate this group?

Jamie

I need my message removed since I'm getting 10,000
viruses sent to me because of my e-mail address being
posted.

Any suggestions?

Either abandon the e-mail address or install a good spam filter. The
address you posted obviously has already been harvested and spread
around. Posting removal is ineffective.

There is however SOME good news.

Once the spam really started, some months ago, escalating spam went on
from 30 to 100 and to 1202 messages in 12 hours over 3 days. After that I
lost count since every few hours my quota ceiled and it didn't matter any
longer.

Been posting to these groups for some four years now and never had any
problems, and than this. Whatever. On to the good news.

I changed my address to a nospam trick and about 2 weeks later my mail
became operational after 24 hours (didn't ceil). It seems that if it pops
out of the group it is not reindexed and since I never submitted anything,
even to so-called remove services (which just confirms to the spammer that
someone actually reads the box which is the worst move you can do), they
sorta fade since no feedback is coming back so they just assume the box was
abandoned.

Adding a few filters and some smart (thank you) filtering of my own, I can
now not use my inbox for almost a week and still have *some* space left for
important mails to fit in.

So in my opinion, the best move here is to lay low. Change the address to
a (e-mail address removed) since you get replies in the group anyway, (as guidelines
recommend), install some filters and NEVER reply to any emails or reemove
links.

If you use OE, disable preview because viewing HTML content can and
probably does validate the email. If you don't recognize the e-mail, delete
it. The only exception would be to unsubscribe from sites you KNOW and TRUST
to be fair about removal.
