I'm using Windows Office Outlook 2003, and can't figure out how to do
something that I would think would be integral to a product like this.

Is there an easy way to create a distribution list of all contacts with a
specific category listed in there contact information?

Hi ,

I found a article for Outlook 2000 ONLY . Hope it helps.

How to add contacts that are in the same category to a distribution list as
a group in Outlook 2000

I agree. I can't believe you can't just grab all the contacts in a Category
and Drag-and-Drop them into a DL!!! This is incredibly frustrating. Why we
just cant DnD a Category into the TO or CC or BCC fields is beyond me.

The above reference to the OL2000 MIGHT work, but it's a serious KLUGE. Way
too much work for such a basic concept.

I guess it's all in how you ask the question. I found this in another thread:

This is an interesting idea, Russ. I'm obviously missing something, however.
How do you send an email to everyone in a particular category?

ANSWER:

In Contacts: View > By Category
Select a Category Header
Actions > New message to Contact

COMMENT:

THANK YOU Russ. I HATE DLs and the ONLY reason I started using DLs was to
email an entire Category. I tried Right Clicking on the Category Header, an
intuitive thing when one is used to the world of MS, to no avail.

You have solved a very frustrating issue for me. CHEERS!

I have been searching high and low for an Outlook add-in that would help with quick DL creation. I agree - it's missing big time!

The only viable solution I've found is to tap into Active Directory's query-based distribution groups -- if you have AD... You'll have access to those groups in the Global Address List.

The next question is, how to populate AD with your contacts? Imanami and Quest Software offer solutions, or you can program it yourself.

MS really needs to address this issue. DL's should NOT be such a bear.
