My office is upgrading to Windows XP at the desktop. We
have hundreds of MS Access 97 databases and have been told
that we need to convert them first to Access 2000, then to
Access XP. True, false, or somewhere in between. This is
a major project that would be nice if we could avoid.
There are no business reasons for needing Access XP.

Thanks - Larry

False.

Office 97/Access 97 will run just fine on Windows XP.

Occasionally, after installing Office 97 on Windows XP or Windows 2000, a
user may receive the following message: "Microsoft Access can't start
because there is no license for it on this machine." This problem is due
to a misbehaving font. The fix for that problem, should it occur, is found
at:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;141373

that we need to convert them first to Access 2000, then to
Access XP

The above comment is also incorrect. If you were upgrading to Access 2002
(XP), you would be able to convert directly from 97 to 2002.

hth,

Access 97 will work fine under Windows XP.

And if you ever do decide to upgrade your version of Access, you can go
directly from Access 97 to Access 2002 (or directly to Access 2003, for that
matter)

As the others have stated. Rubbish. I'm a power user of Access 97
and have never encountered any problems in Win XP. Mind you I do
have the Win XP theme turned off. That caused one minor problem in
A2000.
