Just out of curiosity -

Can Windows XP run on a "super-computer". What operating system/systems do
such super-computers - as the Cray - use?

Does a super-computer have a display, keyboard and mouse like a PC?

Besides computing equations of great complexity, can a super-computer also
surf the Internet?

Regards and thanks for any insights.

Super computers do not run XP of any flavor, and yes, there will be access
to the system via keyboard (and mouse maybe) and some kind of visual
display..

A super computer has its own set of instructions. It will only run programs
written or developed for it.

Turn off the television, set the iPod aside, stop the texting to your
fair-weather friends, and crack open the book that you are supposed to
read for your class. Stop disappointing your parents.

Most of us spend as much time working ON Windows as WITH Windows. Think
anyone in their right mind would attempt running Windows on a billion dollar
computer? :-)

Although Microsoft does have two operating systems that run large scale
systems (Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 & Windows HPC 2008) by far
the *vast* majority have Linux as their operating systems.

Many Cray's have Cray Compute Node Linux (CNL) as their OS.
Does a super-computer have a display, keyboard and mouse like a PC?

Yes - however the /display/ is often a PC.
Besides computing equations of great complexity, can a super-computer also
surf the Internet?

Although it's possible, wouldn't that be a terrible waste of resources?
Regards and thanks for any insights.
