Does a new install delete all existing files?

I am running Windows 98 and would like to install XP. The
upgrade option is not available and a new install is the
only option. I want to keep my existing files. Will
performing a new install delete the existing files or will
they be accessible once XP is installed?

You may be able to dual boot. BEST - if you have a second
partition or HD to use for XP. DIFFICULT-if you rename
the default install folder to something like WinXP on the
same partition it will work but it will overwrite in your
program files when you reinstall all the software you use
in 98. SO you need to be sure to use a new Program Folder
AND possibly more depending on your system.
YOU should check hardware compatability FIRST if you have
OEM hardware and software. Preinstalled systems are
customized for what is most likely integrated add-ons
like Network, modem, sound, and Video. That can lead to
more hardware costs and possibly more complicated
configurations.
