I have noticed that recently when I view a website which makes use of bullet
points they replaced with wierd symbols. (On firefox they appear as bullets)
this isnt just the odd site but 99% of sites including my own which use
bullet points) I have checked the encoding and its at its default auto-select
Western ISO and I am unaware that I have changed anything. I have a fully
upto date IE6 on Win XP SP2

Any ideas?

Hi Nick :-)

Take a look at the following and see if it will help:
Try these steps first and see if they help:

If you have the Google Toolbar or any other 3rd party toolbars installed,
disable it and see if that helps. If not, uninstall and reinstall it. If
you have Yahoo Companion, uninstall it and do not reinstall.

Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Check in IE>Tools>Internet Options>General>Accessibility
and Control Panel>Accessibility Options>Display

For normal viewing nothing should be checked in these sections. Also check
the setting in Control Panel>Accessibility Options>Display is set to Windows
Standard and make sure the High Contrast is not checked.

also...

Go to>View>Encoding
Make sure the Auto Select is not checked, and language you want to use is
selected.

Hope this helps :-)

Thanks for your reply, Interstingly I did have Yahoo companion installed, and
thats when these problems started. I did unisntall it almost immediately but
this has never returned to normal. I have full cleaned the cache and there
doesnt seem to be any trace of Yahoo left (even deleted the index.dat) but
this problem persists. :o\

Hi Nick :-)

Hmmm..strange. However, what I might also suggest is that, IF you are _not_
using Yahoo for your e-mails, or anything to do with Yahoo, that you do a
Search from the Start>Search, and type Yahoo in the search window. See what
comes up in the Search pane. I have a feeling you will see some residual
files in the Registry from that installation. If so, then make a note of
where they are in the Registry (or do a screen shot) and report back here
what you have found. But, you don't have to post all the records listed,
one or two will be fine, just so we can see what is where.

However, IF you _are_ using Yahoo for e-mails then there is no need for the
search.

Also....try doing a repair of the IE and see if that does not help.
Sometimes uninstalling programs like Yahoo Companion can cause some system
files to become damaged or corrupted.
