using XP Professional, I can request a print job, which
is sent to the spooler but won't print on it's own. I
have to select the print job and increase the priority to
max before the pages print. What is the problem? As there
are some background jobs running (and I want to keep them
running), is there a way to increase the print priority
default which is now the lowest possible?

I have found a rogue background program that hogs cpu
cycles and doesn't allow the spooler to run. I have
removed it. However it still would be nice to raise the
priority of the spooler. Is this possible? - alan

Please let us know what the program was that was conflicting with the
spooler.

Setting the default Priority:

Open the Printer Properties / Advanced
Just above the Driver name there is a Priority adjustment.
