Are you using FrontPage under Windows Vista, as this is the FP newsgroup?

What kind of documents? In order to view many documents, you must have the
appropriate viewer or editor on the new system. Some people also confuse
Office XP with XP, saying they created documents with XP (meaning Office XP
and not the OS) and expect them to open anywhere. The problem is, unless MS
Office is installed on the system, no matter if it's Windows XP or Windows
Vista, without the right program to open it you can't open the file.

Hope this helps,

Note, this is a Frontpage (web design application) group, not a general
Windows group; perhaps you meant to post to the Microsoft Office newsgroup?
It would be helpful if you told us what type of documents you're referring
to and in which applications you created them. e.g. are they Word, Excel,
Powerpoint files, or something else?

At this stage I'm going to assume you're talking about general files like MS
Office, and this was just a mis-posted question to this Frontpage group.

What error messages do you get when trying to open these files?

Do you have the same applications that you produced these documents in,
installed on the laptop? e.g. you need MS Office for word, excel etc; this
is not included with Windows Vista (or any other Windows O/S edition); it's
a separately purchasable product, however you might have a *trial* of Office
2007 that was bundled with the computer - but it requires a licence key
(purchase online) or you need to purchase the retail copy from a shop, to
continue use after the trial period (30-60 days).
