As the AD enviornment is getting bigger, I would like to document the
setup of our AD enviornment for easy reference, is there any practice
on how to documenting the AD enviornment ? Or maybe any software could
help on this ?

Any hints will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Ask your MS representitive for ADMAP which can help you accomplish
what you want

Visio Enterprise will sniff it out but at $1,000.00, that is to steep for
me.

Yeah and they (MS) removed that capability in 2003. It mostly did ldif stuff
anyway, so if you have it, use it else some have recommended admap but I
haven't used that (yet).

There is a Visio 2003 Pro Resource Kit for IT Professionals Add-On for
$399.00 that I purchased for Visio that was advertised to do the same thing
for AD, but you know, it was a COMPLETE WASTE of MONEY because it does NOT
do AD. It will discover your network hosts, but has nothing to do with
Active Directory, which was the main reason I wanted it to replace my Visio
2000 Enterprise that did.

Of course I can't return it for a refund.

Yikes! $400 smackers. No trial version available when you bought it? Sad MS
didn't keep that in 2003, it was (is) very useful. Perhaps one or more
'partners' developing competing products lobbied to have it removed.

Have you found some deficiency with Visio 2000 and Win2003 AD's?

Have you imported Visio 2000 AD maps into Visio 2003?

No, not yet. I was so disgusted with the other thing that I just layed it
down for awhile. I need to dig up my Visio 2000 Ent CD. I assumed the other
thing would work and never gave it any thought to look for my old CD and use
it on my new laptop. But then again, now I would need to uninstall Visio
2003 to make Visio 2000 work, unless they will co-exist.

What a mess...

Seemed like a good use for a virtual machine. Win2K workstation and Visio
2000 Enterprise.

That'll be for my next laptop before the end of the year. I need to make
another purchase... tax reasons!

I'll give this laptop to my top client as a gift.

Not bad for a quick high level view of AD. Nothing compared to the object
level detail Visio 2000 Enterprise gives though (darn).

I just installed that today on a machine at one of my clients. It created a
beautiful drawing I may add!
