documenting use of tables and queries

I have a database with quite a number of tables, queries, forms, and
reports. I know that some of the tables and queries are obsolete and I'd
like to get rid of them. Many of the queries refer to other queries, and I
fear that I may delete an apparently obsolete query that is crucial. And I
may not even discover that this happened until much later when I eventually
run the main query or a related report.

Also, I need to know what objects I may be impacting if I tweak a table or
query.

What would help me immensely is a way to trace the use of a table or query
to other database objects. The Documenter function does not do this.

Does anybody know how I can obtain this information in an automated way?
It's way too much trouble to maintain such documentation manually on the
fly.

Thanks!!!

Dear Annie:

There are commercial tools to do this. I'd recommend you look at
Total Access at www.fms.com. Their "Analyzer" produces complete cross
reference information. Make sure you get one for your version of
Access.

Tom:

I checked them out at www.fmsinc.com, and the products look impressive.
Before spending that much money I'd like to hear from others who have used
these tools.

Also, are there other companies that offer competing products?

Thanks!!!

I have purchased and used several FMS products. They are very good
utilities. If you need the functionality, they are well worth the price.
