Document Summary storage limit of 2007

I am currently using PowerPoint 2000 and have recently just crossed the
maximum hyperlinks allowed. The powerpoint I am working on so far is about
500+ slides and when completed will be fairly larger. I know I can divide it
up into smaller presentations, but at the rate I am going, I would have to
make at least several extras (10+ at least) or more. I am also aware that I
can link to external presentations, however, this concerns me because the way
I want to break it up, there would be about 20 some presentations. Our
company also plans on distributing this presentation as a sales item. With
all those presentations open, I am sure this would create some memory and
error issues.

After reading this article::

I wonder while though they dont list the issue applying too PowerPoint 2007,
does it too have a limit?

Ideally I would like to put it all on one because we plan on distributing it
to customers, and the less complicated it is for them the better. However,
it also concerns me that if I make it in PP2007, most of our customers won't
have that version and I would be in the same situation.

Thanks for any input. Happly holidays!

PPT 2007 handles and stores links differently, so it doesn't have that
limit. But if you save the file as PPT 97-2003 format (which it does
automatically if you package for CD and opt to include the Viewer), you run
the risk of some of the links breaking. Specifically, if you linked to
"first slide, next slide," etc., those links may break. See

That article says it was last reviewed in August 2006. I wouldn't assume
anything because it's not mentioned. It wasn't out yet.

Yep, so 2007's limits or lack of them is sort of irrelevant in your situation.

One approach is to break the presentation into multiple presentations, each
invoked from a main menu presentation of only a slide or two. Each
sub-presentation would be closed only by an end-show button or hitting the ESC
key if you put them all in kiosk mode, so you'd never have more than the menu
presentation plus one add'l presentation open at a time. No strain.

If that won't work, let us know. There are some sneaky games you can play with
slide titles and such to minimize the impact of links.

When I had this problem once, I created a "custom show" for each and every slide, and hyperlinked to those instead of the slides directly. It seemed to solve the problem for me, but I couldn't help but wonder if those were stored in the Document Summary as well. Might be worth a try..............

They'd be stored in the doc summary area just like all links BUT the link would include the name
of the custom show rather than the text of the slide title. If the custom show names are short vs
long slide titles, that could save a LOT of space.
