I have a 6.6 MB Excel (97 SR-2) file with a couple of
macros, protections, shared, etc. The file opens fine,
but I cannot save any changes. Nor can I remove it from
shared use, because it of course has to save it first.
My company has a network and a data security department,
and this file is stored in a shared network drive, along
with similar spreadsheets from previous years. Other
spreadsheets can be opened, changed and saved fine, but
not this file.
Earlier today, I used another user's PC in my area to look
at the file. (In my area, we all run Windows NT 4.0, but
the rest of the company is converting to XP and
Office2000) I went to Tools-Share Workbook, and it listed
one user who was not even logged in, and myself 4 times as
having the workbook open. I removed those five users, but
still get the same "Document not saved" message.
Renaming, or relocating the file give the same results.
Tried having the MIS folks restore this file from earlier,
but all restored copies give the same message. I
recreated a healthy replacement file by copying 5 sheets
at a time to a new book. Spent two days fixing formulas
etc, and when I saved it in the place of the previous
file, the new file has the same problem--Document not
saved.
