DM is relatively safe for well-constructed documents, that is, those that
use styles rigorously. What DM is notorious for doing (and what in fact we
have learned it was *intended* to do) is promoting Body Text level
paragraphs to heading levels. So if you have, for example, a paragraph of
less than one line that doesn't end in a period, especially if it is bold
and perhaps in a larger type size, Word will make a heading out of it (this
is similar to what the "Define styles based on your formatting" setting in
AutoFormat As You Type does). Obviously, this isn't always what you want,
but apparently MS thought that users would appreciate it because it would
transform poorly constructed, manually formatted documents into documents
with a recognizable outline. If your document already has a recognizable
outline (you have used appropriate heading styles for the various heading
levels), then DM should not cause problems.
