When I hit print, the icon appears, but it doesn't print. I have downloded a
new driver to no avail. I cannot print from note pad either.

I can scan from my printer (hp 5700 series) but I cannot print it once on
the drive.

Any ideas

I entered this from my hard drive and when I posted it,l I got an error
message that it didn't post and that MS would report it. From my laptop, i
see that it posted. I signed in to my account, but when I hit enter, it went
to an error page. I then went to Favorites, reload the community network and
I was signed it automatically.

I really am befuddled

I hate to do this, but when I posted the second comment below, it told me it
did not post and that it would be reported to operations. I backed out, went
to another page and then came back and the post was there.

See if this helps.

Go to Start -> Run and enter Services.msc in the Open box.
Note: You can also start the Services console from Control Panel ->
Administrative Tools.
In the Services console, look in the right hand pane for an entry titled
Print Spooler.
Right click on this line and select Stop from the menu.
Once the service is stopped, go to Start -> Run and enter the following
folder location in the Open box.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\PRINTERS

If you find any stuck print jobs in this folder, delete them.

Go back and launch the Services console again.
Right click on Print Spooler and this time select Start from the menu.
Close the console.
See if you can print something.
Note: If it still fails to print, try rebooting your computer.

Good luck

I tried what you suggested with no suggest.I used hp's help and support
trouble shooter, and got to the end with no success.

Two other things: 1) if I go to the printer itself and hit for a test page,
it prints. If I go to windows, select print and then 'printer services', I
cannot print a test page from there. 2. if i hit print, and the print box
appears,I have tried to select "find printer" and I get an error message "the
directory services is curently unavailable"

Sorry to hear you're still having problems with your printer.

As for the two issues you posted, I've never come across the first one so I
couldn't even give you a good guess as to what the problem might be. On the
second one, it's my understanding that the "Find printer" button will only
work in an Active Directory domain. This feature is not available in the
typical home computer.

If you haven't done so already, you might want to post this question to the
Windows XP General newsgroup. You could also try the Printing and Faxing
newsgroup.

Good luck

Thanks for your time. I finally, after desperation, deleted the HP software
for my printer and then re-downloaded it. Everthing now works.

Thanks again

Glad to hear you've got your printer working right again. Thanks for the
update.
