How do you create a .doc document in xp and
how do you change a exsisting file into .doc?
I have tried word pad, works and task laucher
as im trying to upload a file to a site which
requires .doc format.

..doc files are made with Mircosoft Word. Some part of
works should be abel to do this.

You must have installed Microsoft Word onto your system
to read a ".doc" file. Otherwise Windows can read it in a
word pad or note pad as text only eliminating much of the
other word attributes.

If you can afford, or do not wish to purchase, Microsoft Word - which is the
application that creates .DOC files - then you can obtain a freeware office
suite called OpenOffice. The "Writer" application that comes with OpenOffice
can create .DOC files . Be aware that the download is 50MB however this is
an excellent alternative to Microsoft Office. The is no spyware, no nags and
no obligations to use it http://www.openoffice.org/product/

A suggestion - if you plan to use this suite you might want to go into the
Writer application's Preferences and set the Load/Save ->General preferences
to load and save Microsoft documents as seen here

The .doc extension is that used by Microsoft Word. No version of
Windows has ever included Microsoft Word. If you want a copy, you
need to buy it, either alone, as part of Microsoft Office, or as
part of Microsoft Works Suite.

WordPad will create a .doc file. When you save, use File, Save As, change
the type to Word, change the extension to .doc.
The WordPad doc will not have the fancy formatting of a Microsoft Word
document, but will be opened by Word.
