Do you need the VIA 4 in 1 drivers anymore with XP?

There haven't been many recent posts about the 4 in 1 drivers in this
forum. Back in 2001 there were conflicting views as to wether or not
these drivers were needed. Is there a concensus now?

I'm putting together my old Duron 800 on an Asus A7V motherboard with
Windows XP&SP1. Everything seems to work just fine after i've
installed windows XP. But the same was true of Windows 98 back in the
day. Back then the 4 in 1 drivers greatly imprived drive speeds and
stability. But with XP being so much better with drivers, i'm
wondering if it's needed and if it might make things less stable.

The computer will be used for surfing, mp3s, small 2d games, web based
flash games, word processing, etc.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi;
The CD-Rom came with the MB.
The version(s) may be outdated but the utilities are still needed.

When he is online, you should be able to download the latest 4in1 drivers,
now known as Hyperion drivers.

YES! How else will you get Ultra DMA and AGP 8X drivers?

As someone else said, i'm already getting UDMA 5 for my harddrive
through whatever drivers windows XP automatically used. And since i'm
using a PCI video card in this computer i don't think i need to worry
about AGP 8x. :-)

So, given this new information, do you still think that the 4 in 1
drivers are needed? I'm not disputing it, but i'm just wondering if
everyone said yes because they've been doing it that way for years or
because they actually *know* that they're needed. Seems they aren't
needed for UDMA but i have no idea if XP has AGP 8x drivers.

Now i'm starting to wonder if i ever installed them on my gaming
machine. hmmmm..... i juat have a regular AGP card (Geforce 4 4200)
and it's not the AGP 8x version. But maybe i would get some increased
performance from then 4 in 1. I'm afraid to install it on my main
computer in case it messes up something. With the move to windows XP
i finally have perfectly working USB and i know there's some USB patch
in the 4 in 1.

Thanks

I don't need them for UDMA either, but my AGP card will default to the
slowest setting without them :-)
