I recently posted on this newsgroup and within 24 hours,
my email address was hijacked and I began receiving return
email notifications.

I take responsibility for being stupid enough to post my
email address in a public forum, but Microsoft should also
take responsibility for not using a newsgroup system that
gives the poster the option of hiding their email address
and only allowing it to be used for blind responses from
other posters. This is common practice on all of the
other forums I use, but then no one ever accused Microsoft
of being savvy about little things like security!

Use a dummy email address in your postings. You might
lose a direct response, but you will avoid getting
hijacked.

One more lesson learned about trusting Microsoft to know
about security!!!

Security of YOUR computer is YOUR job. Not somebody else's.

Didn't you post this a couple of days ago? It's no less your own fault now
than it was then you know.... Try using a little common sense... This is a
PUBLIC newsgroup...

Whether the e-mail is from Microsoft or not one must still scan
everything before installing.

The problem is not just with Microsoft. Sure, M$ has their faults but this
newsgroup system is publicly available. Since it is "out-there" then anyone
can "pick and choose" to take info and then use the way they want.

Lesson learned: user beware!!!!!!!!!!

(S)He was already told that microsoft does not control USEnet the last
time (s)he posted this rant, so this is not a microsoft problem....
Anyone with sense realizes that if you post your actual e-mail address
on a public forum, you will get spammed, or have your address
harvested for other reasons, or both...

(S)He wants to blame someone, and microsoft is convienent... (S)He
made a blunder, and needs to get over it, and cease posting rants to
the newsgroup.
