Do most Raid controllers disable Cache?

Hello...

I have a few final questions before I start my project tomorrow...

I have an Intel D945GNT Motherboard. It has a built in SATA RAID
Controller, (Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager.)

My WD RAPTOR Hard Drive has 16mb of Cache on it. A good friend of mine told
me that most Raid controllers disables Cache on the drives. Does anyone
know if this is true for the Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager?

Is that true, which would I get the best performance from...? Support for
NCQ where I should use the F6 feature to install the SATA RAID driver with a
fresh installation or should I use the SATA to IDE feature in the Bios?
Again, I am looking for the best performance I can get from my Raptor Hard
Drive. What's your advice?

Dale

Youre friend is misinformed,no RAID does not disable cache. However, youre
single WDC hd doesnt qualify for RAID drivers anyway,a single hd w/o the RAID
set will use windows drivers not matrix, matrix is only for RAID which you
will not
be running w/o another hd.For intel info on RAID,go
to:http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/emea/eng/242788.htm Or
see:http://www.intel.com/performance/desktop/platform_technologies/storage_performance.htm
As for youre
install,see:http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-010695.htm
