Do I risk it?

Yep - it's the saga of the RIMMs again!

I emailed Kingston and have been told that the kit is the only
recommendation - which means spending nearly £300. The £85 is value and they
won't warranty it if I was to use it. But the difference is startling, isn't
it (£65 per module)?

So it doesn't look as though I'm going to be saving anything...Unless
someone has used their ValueRAM in an 8250 and can assure me it does work...

Just sell the Dell and buy a faster dual channel DDR based system.

I put Samsung brand in my brothers Dell 8250. Just make sure it's the same
speed (PC600, PC800, PC1066, etc it's written on the stick) and has the same
access time (45ns, 40ns, 35ns, etc. it's written on the stick too). As long
as the 4 sticks match like that it should work, did for me. I also run
Samsung RDRAM in my Gateway, it's a good brand.

I can't guarantee "anything", but in general Dell uses low-spec
memory, the odds are that whatever you buy will be better than the
original memory and work fine, provided you buy the correct speed.

1) It isn't mine to sell - yet.

2) You can't get much faster than a P4 3.2GHz 'C' 800MHz - the rest of
the system's fine (9800 Pro, 250GB HD, Audigy 2 Platinum)
