Dear all

A question - Norton expires in 30 days amd the question is - do I renew (it's always been OK to be honest apart from a recent incident when it got all muddled and had to come off and be reinstalled).

The considerations for me are:

Easy to use
Does 'what it says on the box' with no messing about
Money isn't a particular issue (i.e. if renewing Norton or going for 'whatever' paid software is the best option, that' fine).

What do you guys reckon?

i have norton internet security and it runs out in 6 days, i haven't had any problems with it and am happy so i am going to renew simply because i have it and its esier than buying something else like mcafee and configuring it again, but i cant say if its the best because i haven't used anything else

If it does the job and you are quite happy with it, it might be worth paying the £20. There are some free solutions out there that do a good job, but Norton is good, there's no doubt about that.

You could always try a free version for a week and see how it goes if you fancy a switch?

i've had norton a while now and is brilliant. always up to date for a virus free computer. it did go wrong however... a worm was about lol and caused it to go wrong... the live update wasn't working and i uninstalled it meaninig to reinstall it again however it wouldnt let me! lol all good now after a system restore :O or wotever u call it when u wipe everything lol ;)

Antivir is free and as easy to use as Nortons.

In my opinion it's better than Nortons, I used Nortons for five years.

Antivir is updated almost daily - for free.

It has stopped viruses and trojans for me.

Since I've used Antivir I haven't had a single problem, about 18 months now.

Still, if paying out cash for a program with a fancy GUI makes you feel better, be my guest.

Also check out the computing magazines, as they regularly have 3 month trial versions of anitivirus software on them.
Thats all i do, is just keep installing trial versions. But then I am a cheapo student afterall.
I also format my entire drive about every 6 months, so I just re-install Norton on a fresh install of XP, and I get another 3 months of free Norton :)

I've tried quite a few and there are some reasonable freebies arouind, but I reckon that if anyone's going to keep up to date with the latest virus definitiions then Norton is probably the best out there. Steganos and McAfee are good too, but there doesn't seem to be much price difference so I'd stick with Norton.;)

I have Norton on my Laptop which I subscribed again to for anther year when the subscription expired, no issues whatsoever since I bought the laptop.

On my home machine I have AVG installed and again no issues there since I built the rig about two years back.

However, I prefer to continue with the same antivirus on each machine rather than switch and that is exactly what I continue to do.

Dear all

Decision made - renew Norton so out with the Visa tomorrow to update the subscription!!

Thanks for the replies guys!!

/me thinks to myself......

If only I could get people to pay for something that's free, I'd be rich...

Gottit!

Bottled water, yay..... ;)

Well personally I don't trust Norton--- I think any pay for Anti-virus company contributes to the viral world. I use anti-vir. Its free and I got it at www.download.com a while back. I havn't downloaded it in over a year so I hope its still thier. If you need, and with ADMIN approval I'll attatch it as a zip.

Beside Anti-vir has "luke-filewalker" !!! lol

Hey Raje, in post number 5, the first word of my post is a direct link to the Antvir download site for the free edition.

So, no need to host the file, latest, updated edition is available from that site ;)

And yes, 'Luke Filewalker' I like that, sense of humour there from them German folk, something we don't see from Symantec.

Norton

I have used norton for quite a while. I find it does the job well, but also seems to 'sucks the life' out of my laptops performance. When I updated to service pack 2 on my main pc I had major problems, seemed to sort them out once I unistalled Norton.
