do i need to save mail in outlook express when reformating c drive

i have mail in outlook express. and do not want to lose it when i reformate
my hard drive. do i need to save it on my ext.drive or is it saved on a
server somewhere

The data files are located on you hard drive.

The default file extension will be "dbx." In Outlook Express,
click Tools > Options > Maintenance > Store Folder. This will tell you
where you have OE set to store its data files. (You'll have to look for
yourself, I'm afraid. I've not used OE for years, nor did I ever allow
it to save in any "default" location, although I believe it was
somewhere under "C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local
Settings\Application Data." However, if you copy off your entire user
profile, you'll most likely get it.)

We did not setup your email client nor do we know what email server you
utilize.

Outlook Express is mainly a POP client - meaning you grab your mail from the
server and ave it strictly to your personal machine.

So - in general - for most users who would ask such a qaestion - if you
erase everything off your hard disk drive - you erase your email as well.

Google for 'backup Outlook Express email and settings'...
