Hello , I have had really bad problems the last few days with the computer, I
had installed a toolbar (big mistake) and it deleted about 50% of our
files. The help and Support doesn't work, I did a virus scan today and there
was a Trojan horse in system32. There are loads of errors on the computer . I
am not sure what to do. I have got the service pack 2 installed but I can't
find it in the Add/Remove Programs
because I wanted to try and uninstall that but I can't find the uninstall
files. The Windows XP was already installed on the computer when I purchased
it , Will I need to get a disk for XP to reinstall it? Thank You.

I think you should go to the people that you bought it from and tell them to
fix it..................
Your system should have come with a copy of XP OEM or a "recovery partition"
which when activated would return your system to a state as when you first
purchased it.
If you unable to get them to fix and have no recovery partition then yes you
will need to purchase a new retail copy of XP SP2 and do a new install ...if
you are unable to get rid of the virus/trojan before the install do a
complete format of the HD during the install. This of course wipes your HD
clean so be sure to safe what you need and make sure you have the programs
that you wish to reinstall handy...CD's
The only toolbar worth installing is the google toolbar.
Once it is fixed...please purchase/use and update a good anti virus
program. Also search for SpyBot search and destroy,Adaware and Spyware
Blaster. All of these will need to be updated on a regular basis and RUN
about every 2nd day.A firewall is also a nice thing to have and ZoneAlarm
has a free one that works well.BitDefender has a free version of their anti
virus available for download and you can set it to automatically update and
scan at nite while you are asleep or out partying.

Eventually he'll most likely need to install the OS. If he doesn't have an OS disk now, he might as well get one, cause without the OS disk on hand, removing anything that's already wormed it's way in, there's no wayto know what it's damaged.

And long as he's at it he should probably have M$ send him the FREE SP2 disk.
