do i need to buy a new pc to get window vista? or can i just buy a window
vista cd and install it on the pc i have already that has window xp home.

Yes, there are copies of Vista that will upgrade existing systems. You
should check your current hardware with the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/upgradeadvisor/default.mspx
to be sure your system is capable of running Vista.

As Max indicated, you can upgrade your WinXP Home system provided it has
sufficient specifications. Before buying an upgrade DVD, run the upgrade
advisor and check with your system manufacturer for compatibility issues:
