I just purchased FrontPage 2003 and would like to take advantage of the web
components (e.g., hit counter). I do not plan to publish my web site to a
server, but simply to a web folder on my PC's local hard drive. Do I still
need the FP Server Extensions installed on my PC in order to utilize all the
web components? If so, where can I find them?

Thanks for the assistance.

Bob

If that's what you want, yes, you need the FP server extensions. If you
want them on your local pc, you must have WinXP Pro installed, or Windows
2000 Pro.

Tom,

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I am using Windows XP Pro. However, it
is my understanding that the FP Server Extensions that come with Windows XP
Pro are the 2000 Extensions. Can I simply download the 2002 Server
Extensions from Microsoft's web site and install them rather than first
installing the 2000 Extensions (via Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs,
Add/Remove Windows Components)?

Thanks again for your help.

Yes, FP 2000 will work with fpse 2002.

I don't think that he was asking if FP 2000 would work with Server
Extensions 2002. He has FP 2003 and wants to install Server Extensions 2002.
I looked on MS's web some and couldn't find a download for FPSE 2002. I know
that I've downloaded them in the past but didn't see them tonight.

Jeff

There is one other Windows component that you will need to install if you
haven't already and that is IIS. I think that needs to be installed first
then install the extensions after IIS if you are going to download the 2002
extensions. You may not see much difference between the two extension
versions and if you are publishing to a http://yourcomputername address 2000
should do all you want to do.

I've found the best way to install extensions on IIS in WinXP Pro is
to install IIS with the FP2000 extensions, make sure they are working.
Then download and install the FP2002 extensions.
After installation, configure the 2002 extensions using
Control Panel->Administration Tools->Microsoft Sharepoint
Administrator

Go to
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnservext02/fpse2002win.asp

Download and install the extensions, then the security release.

If you just want to run the hit counter, then installing IIS with the FP2000 extensions would be
just fine.

Everyone,

Thanks again for all your help! I already found the FPSE 2002 file on
Microsoft's web site. I even found a file called "FrontPage Server
Extensions 2002 Security Patch (dated 2003-11-11).

To recap all of your previous suggestions:

1) Install IIS and FPSE 2000 that comes with Windows XP Pro
2) Verify that everything is working okay
3) Install FPSE 2002
4) Install FPSE 2002 Security Patch

Have I got it right?
