Do I need extensions?

Forgive my ignorance, but I contemplate building a web
site for my 10 Mb space which I get with my new RCN
bundled deal (cable model, telephone, cable). Alas, RCN
does *not* support FrontPage extensions. I barely know
what extensions are, so my question is twofold: (1) can I make it
possible for people viewing my web page to download
an executable *.exe file without extensions? (2) can I
publish photograps and/or short videos on my website
without extensions? Thanks.

You do not need extensions for what you are wanting to do.

The FrontPage extensions mostly have to do with publishing your web to the
hosting site. With FP extensions available on the host, you can publish the
site right from the FrontPage application quite easily. While you can't do
that, you can still use FrontPage to develop the web site, or so I believe,
but without FP extensions installed on the host you'll have to publish the
web by FTP'ing the files down to the server instead of doing it through the
FrontPage application. The other things you want to do have nothing to do
with the FP extensions, but can just be implemented through your web's code.

Surely you can ftp from frontpage using ftp://yourdomain.com as opposed to
publishing to your host using http if your host does not support the server
extensions.

He can do it. I do it with one of my webs that I publish on Earthlink's free
space.
