I have both defender and one care live installed, do I need both or is one
care live able to perform functions of defender?

I think for total coverage, you have to use both of them. Defender is more
anti-spyware. One Care is anti-virus. Two fists are better than one.

INvestigate further. I believe Defender is the anti-spyware conponent of One
Care. I think in Vista it will all be part of one package.

This is incorrect. As of today's update to OneCare live, Windows Defender
montoring is integrated into OneCare live. See my post in .announcements,
or install OneCare live and see how this works for yourself.

You should be offered an update to OneCare Live today which will allow for
communication between OneCare and Windows Defender. These apps are
complimentary--OneCare does not contain its own antispyware technology.

The new version of Windows OneCare that includes a hook to Defender
and installs it for users of WOC that do not already have Defender in
place was released only to private beta testers today. It will be
released to the public beta testers in the very near future - perhaps
as early as tomorrow, unless a serious defect is encountered by the
managed/private beta testers.

Windows Defender Live (Beta), help needed from Microsoft.
Except for the new download Signature Version 1.14.1314.1, all previous
versions have fallen into a loop to High Priority Definition Update
1.14.1314.1 for Beta Windows Defender (KB915597). The users of the Windows
OneCare Live (Beta) have downloaded automatically the file in excess of 54
times, as per the Update History, with no positive results. Previous results
of the Windows Defender (Beta) Definition Updates that worked are:
1.13.1276.3, 1.13.1272.4, 1.13.1276.16, 1.13.1282.6 and 1.13.1386.1 with KB
892519, 892519, 892519, 915597 and 915597 respectively. The loop failure
started when trying to update to 1.13.1288.5 and 1.13.1314.1 both with
KB915597, from older Signature Versions. Worst of all, no removal of the
Defender beta is possible nor installation of the newer 1314 version ontop of
the other.
Microsoft, please read also the many complains in the Discussion Groups Home

Windows Defender is not included in OneCare though the latter does have
anti-spyware capabilities.

Windows Defender will be included in Windows Vista; OneCare will not.

I do with all the places I go on the internet.I am curious though because
Microsoft offers us the tools we need.Shouldn't they? I mean its their system
so why are you forever trying to sell me additonal tools for the upkeep of my
system?I run the Live One Scanner for 3-5 hours for my health?I like
Microsoft and I don't like the junk.I don't have any money anyway so stop
asking me.

because there are bad guys out there trying to destroy anything Microsoft
and since you do have a MS product you basically have no choice unless you
want to buy a mac.

btw Live one care has defender built into it so you do not have to run WD
seperately
In Vista it disables WD when it runs
In XP you can just uninstall WD
