Do I need a new hard disk?

Personally I'd buy another hard drive..... you don't want to be in the
situation when you get this one working and then suddenly it dies on your
when you haven't backed everything up.

A new hard drive should come with utilities to copy the whole of the old
drive to the new one but again, I would do a new clean install of XP and
then configure the old drive as a slave and try to retrieve what you can.
Don't take the change in copying everything over only to find that a lot of
it is corrupt.

You need a new hard disk for sure, that's where the diagnostic tool is for.
Best is to install O/S and applications fresh even if that takes a lot
of time.
But maybe you need even more time when you have to work with corrupted
files from the sick disk.

I am having problems with my master drive. Windows won't boot from it. I
moved it to another PC and I am able to read all the data, but the Western
Digital Diagnostics Tool gives me an Error 08-Too many bad sectors detected!
It looks like these these bad sectors are in the bootable area. I have
recovered all the data that I needed.

In order to restore my other machine, do I need a new hard disk, or is it
"safe" to just re-format this drive and start fresh?

Also, is there any "safe and easy" way to "copy" all the applications that I
had on this drive to the new drive? Or am I better off just re-installing
all of them one by one? (They are quite a few and it will take me several
days to re-install them all.)

Thanks,
Eduardo

Thanks Cari. I was afraid that was going to be the recommendation. Off I
go to CompUSA or Best Buy tonight to buy a new drive and get started.
