Used to be able to listen to music and watch DVD's. Noticed the ability to
watch DVD's went first, now I can't even listen to CD's.

I have the latest version of Windows Media Player and all the neccessary
updates are installed.

When I go to My Computer ----> Devices with Removable Storage ---> DVD
Drive, then I right click and hit Properties, I can see that the pie chart is
ALL blue, i.e. no free space, but there are no figures, all it says several
times is 0 bytes.

Please help!

First thing to try is a standard CD cleaning kit.... after that if still no
change, replace the optical drive. The lasers have failed.

You might try the Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility to see if yours
(decoders) are current..If not, check your video cards web site for their
decoder update, should be free.. ATI had a decoder update for my Radeon
9600xt, free..

Also, see/review these two update/fixes for media player that MS offers, see
links below..
