do I need a dvd drive before I can watch dvd movies or vcd movies or can I
just download a software that translates that information for my computer?
 
DVD movies on a DVD ...........you need a DVD drive
DVD movies downloaded to your hard drive ...you need software which usually
includes the codecs to play the movie.

How long will u be able to download those huge sized DVD movies.

Get yourself a DVD Drive and spend a few dollars on a software like Win DVD or Power DVD and enjoy watching DVD movies. get them from a rental library.
