I just switched to WiFi. I configured to encrypt. I
already use PC-Cillin firewall. Do I need to configure
also the WiFi firewall or am I already protected by PC-
Cillin firewall?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I personally think that the firewall on the Wireless access point router
(assuming you have one like Linksys or Netgear) is sufficient. I don't
like having too much "stuff" running on the desktop machine getting in
the way of things and causing software problems.

However, others think that the added protection of firewall running on
the desktop is a good thing to do and needed. All depends on how you
perceive your risk. Completely up to you.

The encryption you are talking about is controlling a different risk.
It is an "attempt" (a good one, but not completely unhackable for the
determined hacker) to protect the lan signal you are broadcasting. It
has nothing to do with firewall security.

Thank you for replying.

Yes, I have Netgear DG824M. The problem is that I had
not activated its firewall so I thought that I was not
protected by its firewall, but I just read in the
firewall rules: The default rule blocks all inbound
traffic. So, yes I am protected, without activation. PC-
Cillin firewall is build in PC-Cillin virus protection.

I thought that Encryption was to prevent anyone to use my
signal for Internet access. I activated encryption
because I was afraid that, by using my signal, someone
may be able to access my data in my computer. By
encrypting, I thought that I would be (a little bit)
protected, therefore that I perhaps did not need to use
Netgear's firewall. But now I see that I am using both
protections.
