I am reinstalling the Windows XP on my laptop and I need to find out if I
will lose the files that I already have on my laptop? I am new to this and I
need help...can some one please help me with this before I make a big
mistake. Or do i need to back them up somehow?

Thanks!

This is not the best place to post this question, as it's a Windows Defender
newsgroup, so you might get better help elsewhere.

However, if you're going to use your laptop's Recovery disc to reinstall XP,
this is something I've done myself. So, although I'm not an expert, I do know
that yes, you will lose your files, and yes, you do need to back up any that
you need to keep, by burning them onto a CD or by some other method. Good
luck!

So what does Windows defend you from? Sadam, Bin Laden! Or are you saying we have to defend Windows?

"Windows Defender" is the name of Microsoft's free antispyware program. If
you're unaware of the need for such a program (as your post implies), then
I'd suggest the security of your computer online is seriously at risk, and it
would be a good idea to find out about it.
