do i have the computer to run vista

I have an acer 5100 with the amd64x2 1.7 ghz2x256kb l2 cache.up to 256mb ati
radeon 160 gb hdd 1gb ddr2 . AND AM NOT HAPPY WITH THE SPEED.IT takes too
long start up or shut down.I just mainly use it for chatting keeping up with
where all the work is at etc... as I am a union electrican.

I have owned the excact same computer, and it's hw specs are just fine for
running Windows Vista. However, I suggest you add another GB of RAM like I
did, it will significantly increase the computer's performance.
Alternatively you can use ReadyBoost if you have a fast memory card/stick of
some kind, it's not as good though.

Ok so where is the best place to have that as i have never worked on a lap
top.Had np adding drives or men to my desk top.but this my first lap top.

Have what? A new RAM chip or ReadyBoost?

If you are thinking of adding more RAM, here is what I did:

I ended up buying a 1GB DDR-533 SODIMM chip form MemoryTen.com. It was the
best offer at the time, I believe the make & model was Kingston KAC-MEME/1G.
This was over a year ago, so you better check current prices in multiple
stores
for yourself. You might find a good deal in a local computer shop also, in
which case they can help you with the installation as well.

However, installing is pretty easy. By taking a look in the computer manual,
you will find the correct panel to open up, and all you have to do is to
slide the new memory chip into the available slot, and put the panel back
on. Vista takes care of the rest, the added memory is recognized at first
boot.
