Someone said their was a reg edit i could use ??

How can i tell what hertz my monitor is on>???

So i can tell for sure.

Thanks.

Well, in the "Advanced" Display settings, depending on what video card driver
you have installed, you probably have a "Display(s)" tab, for which you use to
configure your monitor. If the monitor is old, or just flat out does not
support DDC communication, then it may be set to 60Hz since it cannot detect
what monitor it's connected to and what it's max refresh rate is.

Also, on the Monitor tab, it should tell you what kind of monitor is connected
and the current refresh rate. Keep in mind, on this tab, it should say the
monitor is either "Plug and Play Monitor" or list the actual make/model of your
monitor. If it just lists "Unknown monitor" or "Default Monitor", then you
should change it to Plug and Play Monitor... that MAY be a reason for it not
going to the refresh rates you are trying to get.

Hope this helps,

Tim

If your monitor doesn't say, then as far as I know there's no way to know
for sure since Windows often mis-reports the refresh rate.

For instance, before I used the Reforce program (see your other thread for a
download link) Windows would say it'd be at 100Hz, but it was obvious to the
naked eye that it was really at 60Hz.

Right now I'm using a custom resolution for use with a widescreen monitor,
and as far as Windows reports it thinks it's running at 60Hz, but it's
actually at 90Hz (as I specifically configured the resolution to, and as my
monitor correctly reports).

Go to http://entechtaiwan.com/ and look through free software for OSD
(OnScreenDisplay). It will show actual refresh rate.

You may also want to look at some of the other freeware.

Yes, as I said in my earlier post the registry fix is to change the
value of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
Software\ATI
Technologies\Driver\0002\DAL\IDCRegOptionDontUseOSMonitorInfo
from 01 00 00 00 to 00 00 00 00.

Apparently , thanks Daniel, the IDCRegOptionDontUseOSMonitorInfo
key may be somewhere else in the registry on your pc, so you may have to
search for it.

It worked a treat on my machine: Windows 98SE, Radeon 9000 PRO, Taxan
Ergovision 755 monitor. With the value set to 01 00 00 00 the refresh is
always 60Hz irrespective of what its set to in Windows Display
properties. With it set to 00 00 00 00 the refresh is what it should be.

Ill try that and see what the hertz are.

Thanks getting it now.

I caught what you said earlier BUT.

Anything to do with reg editing I RUN AWAY FROM.

ill trying all other options before doing that.

If you run me though it.

Ill think about it.

The TOTAL MASSIVE IDIOT guide would be best for me :)

Start with 1/ Turn Computer on :)

Got os BUT.

Wont work under XP :(

Any other software that does the same ?
