Do 9x00 vid-cards support geometry instancing?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that 9500 - 9800 vid-cards support
geometry instancing. On another note, is the only way to enable geometry
instancing thru a utility such as ATITool (which no ATI user should be
without IMHO)? I've never seen the option to enable geometry instancing in
any ATI drivers.

It should be in CCC, along with Catalyst AI level selection. However, I
don't use CCC, so I cannot confirm. Most games avoid using geometry
instancing, though, because today's cards actually cannot do it efficiently.
The 9x00 series suffer the greatest performance hit, being the first-gen
cards to support this feature.

Interesting. I recall reading reports of ATi's internal presentations,
directing the developer relations reps to not promote dynamic flow control
because the hardware implementation was slow. They must have been referring
to something else in shader programming. Good to see geometry instancing can
allow "performance-costly" options to be enabled in games.
