DNSCMD.exe Gurus,

Windows 2000 SP4 DNS Server with all Primary Zones
If I issue the command:
dnscmd /config ..AllZones /AllowUpdate Yes
I get:
Registry property AllowUpdate successfully reset.
Command completed successfully.
but the zone properties still show No in Allow Dynamic Updates even after a
restart of the console.

Yet, if I set a couple of zones to Yes through the GUI, and issue a:
dnscmd /config ..AllZones /AllowUpdate No
I get the same success message and the console shows all zones as No after a
refresh of the console. It's like I can only go from Yes to No but not from
No to Yes. Anyone seen this? TIA.

Good luck on getting an answer. Even though some of us use DNSCmd
it is a "finicky" command utility that requires getting the switches "just
so"
and so we usually get it to work, but then either never fool with that idea
again, or we stuff the answer into a batch file and never LOOK at it again.

You might want to try this on the CMDprompt newsgroup also.

And you might want to clean up the question a bit, separating the problem
from the details -- I had to read it a couple of times to figure out what
you
were asking and some people (perhaps the one person with the answer)
will just move on to the next question.

Don't know if it's relative, but I have expereinced some weirdness if trying
to manage W2K DNS from an XP interface. I now remote desktop into a W2K
machine to manage DNS.
