Hi,

I have a problem with dns client on a computer running Ms
Windows 2000 SP4

The problem is that dnschace crashes randomly and it can't
resolve any name, throwing the "Uknown host" error.

When I restart dnscache with these commands,

C:\net stop dnscache
C:\net start dnscache

dnscache resolves correctly again.

I have tried to flush all the dns cache entries
with "ipconfig /flushdns", but it doesn't works.

Lastly, I entered to registry and the parameters of
dnscache are these: (and I think that are correct, isn't
it?)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnsca
che\Parameters]
"NegativeCacheTime"=dword:0000012c
"NegativeSOACacheTime"=dword:00000078
"NetFailureCacheTime"=dword:0000001e
"AdapterTimeoutCacheTime"=dword:00000078
"CacheHashTableSize"=dword:000000d3
"CacheHashTableBucketSize"=dword:0000000a
"NetFailureErrorPopupLimit"=dword:00000000
"MaxCacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:00015180
"MaxSOACacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:0000012c

So, to solve this problem I restart the client when it
crashes. But I would like to find the reason why is
happening this. And I would be very pleased to find a
definitively solution for this problem, due to it crashes
really often.

Thanks,

Gerard Forns

We have same pb.
Someone can help us ?
thanks

Can you post an ipconfig /all from the client please? That can give us a
start in diagnosing.
Thanks

GFC> The problem is that dnschace crashes randomly [...]

You'll need to provide the register dump and what is recorded in the event
log.

A> We have same pb.

Then you, too, can provide the register dump and what is recorded in the event
log.
