Hi folks,

I'll cut to the chase....after a reboot, I've lost my network, printer etc.
When troubleshooting, I'm getting a "Your DNS Server might be unavailable".

.....and thats where my ability/knowledge ends!

My first reaction would be to "flush" your DNS & reset.

Also, try a 'hard reboot' of your router/modem via a reset and power of everything.

Need more info, it could be a number of things.

Hi Mucks,
I've tried a hard modem reset. No good.
I've tried an 'ipconfig /flushdns', and got 'Could not flush the DNS Resolver Cache: Function failed during execution'

What other info do you need?

Operating system, modem make model, ISP, website host, AV software, who's firewall? that sort of stuff. :)

OK, in the meantime, check that your DNS Client isn't disabled.

1. Press the WINkey+R to bring up the Run dialog box.
2. Type services.msc in Run and click OK.
3. Look for DNS Client in the name column and double click on it.
4. If the startup type is disabled, simply click on the drop down menu and select Automatic. Click Apply and followed by clicking on the Start button. Alternatively you can also reboot your computer and the DNS Client service will automatically start by itself.

if it still won't start, check the event log for errors ... WINkey + R, type eventvwr, click OK, expand Windows Logs > System.

Hi again Mucks,
Tried and client wasn't disabled.

....but, as of 5 mins ago, all is now sorted.

Thanks to one program running that created a restore point last month, I thought I'd try a system restore.
I tried it.
It worked.

Thanks for your assistance, as always!

oh well, fixed for now then ... hopefully the "error" doesn't re-appear. :)
