hi,
i see myself 2-3 times per day clearing the DSN cache
i'm connected to a SBS 2003 and get everything by DHCP
but when i surf the web and a site isn't reachable, i just issue ipconfig
/flushdns and it works again
am i the only one?

I can't say if you're the "only one" because there's no way for me to
know this. I can say, however, that this is not normal computing
behavior and you should hardly ever need to do flushdns except when
troubleshooting.

Perhaps your DNS is set up incorrectly. The server should look only to
itself for DNS with forward/reverse lookups created and workstations
should look only to the server.

I'm having the exact same problem and I'd appreciate any feedback that can be
provided. My Vista is also connecting to SBS 2003 and I have to do the
ipconfig /flushdns EVERY day to keep things working. Some sites are fine and
some show up as "cannot be found". Flushdns works fine but I don't
understand why I have to do this every single day. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Is your SBS 2003 patched to support Vista? What are your DNS settings?

Hi Malke and thanks for the response. Apologies in advance as I have no idea
if our SBS 2003 is patched. I'll have to check with our Sysadmin to find
out. I know he did have to make some changes that finally allowed me to get
MS updates into my Vista box but our DNS is handled through a Fortigate unit
which connects me back to our head office so I'll check with him on that.
Appreciate the feedback and hopefully I can find a solution to this
"flushdns" nonsense. Cheers!
