I was taking a look at my DNS zone and noticed their our old records that
haven't been in existence for years. For example workstaion and servers that
are no longer in existence. Why wouldn't these records be removed from DNS
automatically.

Are they client-entered records, or manually-entered HOST or ALIAS entries?
If you put it there it won't go away.

Hello George,

Richard has the right point that by default, if a record is created
manually, it will not be deleted when it becomes stale record because when
you create a record manually, the option of "delete this record when it
become stale" is not enabled. If that is the case, these records will not
be deleted unless you delete them manually.

To check it:

1. Open DNS administrative console, select the DNS Domain.
2. Click View -> Advanced.
3. Open the properties page of an old record.
4. If the "delete this record when it become stale" is not enabled, this is
the case.

Hope this helps.

Ada Pan
